Wisdom's Worth

Time and time again, the VALUE of wisdom is underscored for the believer and the importance of understanding is highlighted for he that is saved.

Why the believer? Because he should be able to be WISE as a serpent. For the unbeliever can get away in this world with any behavioural pattern he tends to adorn.

Why the saved? Because God's ways are so intricate that life and its meaning has to be comprehended. The secret things belong unto the LORD our God:... He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him (Deut.29:29, Dan.2:22). For the unsaved can take for granted the mysteries of life, choosing 'sensible' interpretation he at any time decides to adopt.

God takes us through divinely orchestrated situations in life because there are things He wants to teach us. When I refer to knowledge here I am pointing not to the knowledge we get from books but majorly, the knowledge we get from the school of life.

I am talking about experiential knowledge. Life is a huge classroom that God uses to mold people unto destiny and greatness. I am not saying Knowledge gotten from books and organised education is not good, it is. However while such knowledge is only available to those who are educated, the knowledge from the School of Life is general to all. The value of the latter coupled with the knowledge of the Scriptures can never overrated.

I sincerely believe that why some things repeatedly happen to us, why it seems we are trapped in the whirlpool of certain 'albeit-not-too-good' circumstances in life, may be because we have refused to learn the lessons that God has embedded within such occurrences and events.

It is like carrying-over a course you have failed to pass in College or University. You can not be allowed to move forward or move out because your qualifications for the next level are not complete. If you go forward, you not only pose a danger to others but yourself as well.

Proverbs chap. 4 vs 5 - 9 say, "Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not… Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver thee."

Now, if we are to get wisdom, we must know what wisdom is.

Wisdom is simply the application of knowledge. Hence to a very great extent, how much wisdom you manifest is determined by how much knowledge you possess and are willing to put into practice (action).

However for a man to put a degree of knowledge he has obtained into action, he should already have gotten an/some understanding of that knowledge intended to be applied. Little wonder, Solomon says, "…in all thy getting (OF WISDOM) get UNDERSTANDING. That is why I see understanding as knowledge in PASSIVE, if wisdom is active knowledge.

Having passive knowledge isn't enough, active knowledge must be added. Because a man who knows but does not use what he knows, is no different from or better than the ignorant, if not worse off!

Scriptures shouts it: Love her! Love her! Exalt her! Embrace her!

Are you asking how you can love wisdom? I tell you it is quite simple. Simply put: don't forget whatever you learn.

I speak to those who acquire knowledge, "Forsake her not! If you would love enough that you have been given then understanding shall come to you.

If you put in remembrance always that which God has opened your eyes to see, then you shall be kept, maintained and preserved." Wisdom comes to those that SEEK her. She stays with those who LOVE her, those who forget her not.

Next is the question of how we can embrace her. How can you exalt wisdom? Again, I answer with just one word: USE!

Using wisdom is applying the knowledge you have obtained. I believe you know what it means to use something. Anything that is being used for its purpose is actually been put in its proper place.

The act of putting a thing in its proper place is no different from exalting it, as much as twenty is different from a score. If you hold unto that which God has enabled you to understand in life, then you shall be honoured, promoted, and crowned.

Friend, there is so much for you to gain. As God takes you through the journey of life, you must learn from your mistakes and from your victories; you ought to learn from your friends and from your enemies; you will also have to learn from your environment and from your circumstances.

If you ask the Father, He shall open your eyes to these lessons. But note that it is up to you to learn from them, to keep and use what you learn.

Jam.1:5 says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to ALL men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." (emphasis mine).

Keeping a journal based on your prayerful reminiscing of the day at the end of that day is very much a great idea.

In short, learn from the past, apply your knowledge in the present, and the future can only be better and brighter.

So I encourage you today, "Love her! Exalt her!" An ornament of grace, a crown of glory awaits you!

As you proceed today; in you do, be directed by wisdom from the God and Lord, Jesus Christ. God bless you richly.
